Action Against Hunger Nigeria (ACF Nigeria) LTD/GTE began operations in Nigeria in 2010 in response to the high rate of chronic malnutrition in Northern Nigeria, focusing on integrated programming. Action Against Hunger currently implements multi-sectorial humanitarian and development interventions in Northeast and Northwest Nigeria, funded by AFD, EU/ECHO, French Government, GAC, GFFO, SIDA, US Government, and WAM Foundation.
ACF Nigeria is currently looking to fill the role of Hygiene Assistant who will assist in undertaking hygiene promotion-related activities and non-food items distribution to affected populations.
Position Details
Reporting to: Hygiene Officer
Proposed start date: February 2026
Work location: Nguru, Yobe State
The title of the position is responsible for:
Mission 1: Assist in context assessment and developing materials for hygiene promotion.
Tasks :
- Conduct initial rapid needs assessment for affected communities and Health facilities
- Assist in conducting home visits and visits to the community (schools, Health facilities, etc.) to identify gaps in terms of hygiene, sanitation and use of water.
- Assist in preparing training modules for the promotion of hygiene practices at the household and community levels.
- Assist in developing training tools adapted to different audiences using different approaches; songs, role games, meetings, training courses.
- Assist in identifying targeted partners within the communities: schools, hospitals, clinics, etc.
- Conduct household census to determine beneficiary population.
Mission 2: Carry out emergency safe hygiene promotion and mobilize members of the beneficiary communities and health facilities
Tasks :
- Organize emergency hygiene promotion awareness raising sessions.
- Mobilize communities and health facilities to adopt safe hygiene practices as promoted by the project (latrine construction, hand washing facilities, environmental cleanliness)
- Assist in conducting training sessions for the community workers and/or targeted populations.
- Conduct focus group discussion for Women and Girls to identify a location for the construction of WASH facilities
- Write a weekly activity report.
- Propose possible improvements.
Mission 3 : Assist in carrying out shelter, hygiene and NFI kits distribution.
Tasks :
- Assist in the process of beneficiaries selection to receive NFI assistance.
- Assist in beneficiary registration.
- Assist in distributing shelter, Hygiene and NFI kits to registered beneficiaries.
Additional Responsibilities:
- This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and the employee will also perform other related tasks as required and responsible for reporting and communication of progress and achievement of the specific assigned task.
- Maintenance of high technical standards
- Professionally conduct all duties following Action Against Hunger Nigeria mission staff regulations, Action Against Hunger mandate and charter, including promotion of gender equality.
- Weekly plan and report against the plan
- Monthly field activity report
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of National Diploma in Public Health or Health related field.
- Motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible, and culturally sensitive
- Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
- Fluency in Hausa and English.
- Commitment to Action Against Hunger Nigeria’s mission, values, and policy
- Good knowledge of the intervention area/s and local economy
