Action Against Hunger began operations in Nigeria in 2010 in response to the high rate of chronic malnutrition in Northern Nigeria, focusing on integrated programming.
In 2011, we expanded our work to begin implementing nutrition development projects in Jigawa and in Yobe. Following the crises in Northeast Nigeria, we further expanded our operations to address the Nutrition, Health, Food security and livelihoods, WASH, and shelter needs of conflict-affected communities.
Action Against Hunger Nigeria programme is supported by FCDO, ECHO, GAC, BHA, SDC, UNICEF, EU, AFD, SIDA and GFFO.
Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Community Development Assistant, who will be responsible to support the RESILAC Social Safety Net/Hygiene Officers in engaging with communities and assisting in the implementation of RESILAC project components, including social protection programs, and integrated support in FSL & WASH. The assistants will also provide administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of project activities.

Key Responsibilities:
- Help organize and participate in campaigns, workshops, and community meetings aimed at raising awareness and promoting engagement in various project components;
- Assist in the identification and selection of vulnerable individuals for project activities, including social protection, education, health, WASH, and agriculture initiatives;
- Support the delivery of services and resources to beneficiaries, ensuring that activities are inclusive and accessible to all community members, especially marginalized groups;
- Facilitate the implementation of labor-intensive activities, cash transfer programs, and other community-focused interventions as needed;
- Collaborate with the Social Safety Net Senior Officer and other project staff to ensure that activities are well-coordinated and meet the project’s objectives across different sectors;
- Provide basic support and assistance in health promotion, WASH activities, and agricultural practices, contributing to the overall success of the project’s integrated approach;
- Build strong relationships with community members, leaders, and stakeholders to ensure active participation in all project activities across different sectors;
- Facilitate community meetings and workshops to raise awareness about project goals and activities, emphasizing the integration of social protection, health, WASH, and agriculture;
- Support the Social Safety Net Senior Officer in conducting community needs assessments and identifying potential beneficiaries for various project components;
- Ensure effective communication between the project team and community members, addressing any concerns or feedback;
- Assist in the preparation and organization of project-related documents, including beneficiary lists, activity reports, and meeting minutes across all sectors;
- Maintain accurate records of project activities, ensuring that data is properly collected and stored for social protection, health, WASH, and agriculture components;
- Provide logistical support for field activities, including arranging transportation, booking venues, and preparing materials;
- Assist in the coordination of training sessions and workshops for community members and project staff across all sectors;
- Support the monitoring of project activities, ensuring they are implemented according to plan and meet the project's objectives across social protection, health, WASH, and agriculture;
- Collect and compile data from the field, assisting the Social Safety Net Senior Officer in preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders;
- Participate in regular field visits to monitor the progress of activities and provide feedback to the project team;
- Assist in organizing training sessions for community volunteers and project beneficiaries, focusing on social protection, education, health, WASH, and agriculture;
- Provide on-the-job support to community volunteers, ensuring they have the knowledge and skills needed to carry out their roles effectively across various sectors;
- Participate in capacity-building initiatives for local government staff and community leaders.
Position Requirements:
- National Diploma/Degree in Education, Community Development, Social Work, Health, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Public Health, or a related field;
- Minimum of 2-year experience in community mobilization/development work, preferably in a humanitarian context;
- Experience implementing multi-sectoral projects, including social protection programs, educational initiatives, labor-intensive activities, and integrated support in Health, WASH, and Agriculture;
- Resident of community area (LGA) of work, networks within community;
- Previous NGO experience managing mobilization in different interventions;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, experience in community engagement, and basic administrative skills;
- Proficiency in English and local languages (e.g., Kanuri, Hausa) is required;
- Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions like long distance walking to screening sites;
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with community members and leaders, partner agencies and key contacts in the government.
