Action Against Hunger Nigeria (ACF Nigeria) LTD/GTE began operations in Nigeria in 2010 in response to the high rate of chronic malnutrition in Northern Nigeria, focusing on integrated programming. Action Against Hunger currently implements multi-sectoral humanitarian and development interventions in Northeast and Northwest Nigeria, funded by AFD, EU/ECHO, French Government, GAC, GFFO, SIDA, US Government, and WAM Foundation.
Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Driver, who will be responsible for ensuring safe utilization of transport means, ensuring the health and safety of all personnel on board, while providing a qualitative report on usage of the vehicle assigned to the user.
Position Details
Reporting to: Logistics Officer
Proposed start date: March 2026
Work location: Sokoto, Sokoto State
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive in a safe way at all times, respecting the country's circulation rules and following the base/capital logistician's planning and instructions;
- Ensure the safety and security of ACF- Nigeria's vehicle and staff onboard;
- Importantly, remind passengers to fasten their seatbelts.
- In case of an accident or incident, immediately get in touch with the logistics department and follow their instructions; Complete the incident report within 4 hours or as soon as you arrive back at base.
- Follow all ACF- Nigeria's rules and regulations and the vehicle manufacturer's guidelines;
- Go for Interstate and field movements and stay in other bases overnight as and when required;
- Work according to the driver‘s roster/schedule (i.e., inclusive of night and day shift), including weekends and national holidays when using the vehicle;
- Ensure that all personal documents (ID, driving license) and vehicle documents are valid and kept on board at all times;
- Ensure all required safety equipment is carried onboard and in good condition, and inform the logistics department of any deficiencies.
- Solve minor problems and perform basic maintenance;
- Inform the Logistics department of any major repairs to be carried out, and immediately inform them of any incurred damage.
- Carry out daily checks before starting up the engine.
- Carry out weekly checks once a week.
- Keep the vehicle clean and wash it regularly as requested by the base/capital logistician. Keep track of the maintenance schedule and notify the base/capital logistician 500 1000km before the maintenance is due;
- Inspect and prepare the vehicle the day before departure to be on time.
- Load the vehicle with the transported goods;
- Ensure that transported goods are accompanied by duly filled and signed delivery notes.
- Obtain the signature of the delivery note from the consignee and return the document to the sender.
- Check if all required equipment is on board and functioning (communication equipment, toolbox, medical kit, fuel, stickers, flags);
- Check with base/capital logistician if security clearance is received before departure (SMP approved for cross-state movements);
- Ensure all documents are on board and filled out duly with readable handwriting;
- Record the car movement in the movement log and get the passenger's signature;
- Complete the Fuel Log book accurately daily with mileage, fuel consumption information, and after every maintenance.
- Submit the completed Log Book to the base/capital logistician every month.
- Submit all receipts for fuel, airport, and parking tickets, etc., promptly to the base/capital logistician for reconciliation.
- First School leaving certificate or equivalent or above;
- A valid and current Nigerian driver’s license;
- Proficiency in English language;
- Previous experience is an added advantage;
- Good reading and writing skills;
- Accurate knowledge of all traffic rules;
- Flexible and adaptable in a changing work environment;
- Good communication skills and high level of integrity;
- Knowledge of security issues;
- Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations.
