Action Against Hunger currently implements multi-sectoral humanitarian and development interventions in Northeast and Northwest Nigeria, funded by AFD, EU/ECHO, French Government, GAC, SIDA, US Government, and GIZ.

Action Against Hunger Nigeria (ACF Nigeria) Ltd/Gte is currently recruiting a Project Coordinator (PC) based in Katsina.  The PC will lead the implementation of the projects in Katsina and Borno states.  The role is responsible for ensuring effective project delivery through strong coordination, quality assurance, monitoring, budget management, and compliance with donor and organizational requirements.  The PC will provide overall leadership to project teams, ensuring activities are delivered on time, within budget, and achieve the intended outcomes for target communities.  The position will work closely with technical and support departments to promote high-quality implementation and effective resource management.  As a key representative of ACF, the PC will maintain strong relationships with government authorities, donors, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders, fostering collaboration and enhancing the impact of project interventions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Mission 1. Ensure Effective Planning, Coordination and Quality Implementation of the Projects

The Project Coordinator is responsible for:
  • Leading the overall planning, implementation, and monitoring of the CIFF and MBRG projects in accordance with approved proposals, work plans, budgets, and donor requirements.
  • Developing and regularly updating implementation plans, procurement plans, spending plans, and activity schedules.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of project activities and achievement of targets and indicators.
  • Coordinating closely with technical departments, MEAL, logistics, finance, HR, and security teams to facilitate quality project implementation.
  • Monitoring project progress and identifying implementation bottlenecks and corrective actions.
  • Ensuring integration of cross-cutting themes including gender, protection, accountability, safeguarding, and inclusion in all project activities in collaboration with the relevant departments
  • Conducting regular field visits to monitor implementation quality and provide technical and managerial support to project teams.
  • Ensuring that project activities adhere to organizational policies, technical standards, and donor requirements.

Mission 2- Budget Management and Resource Utilization

The Project Coordinator is responsible for
  • Managing project budgets and ensuring efficient utilization of resources.
  • Monitoring monthly budget performance and burn rates.
  • Reviewing Budget Follow-Up (BFU) reports and identifying risks of under-spending or over-spending and take the necessary action proactively.
  • Developing corrective actions to address budget variances and implementation delays.
  • Working closely with Finance and Grants teams to ensure compliance with donor regulations and internal financial procedures.
  • Forecasting project expenditures and supporting budget revisions when necessary.
  • Ensuring value for money and cost-effective implementation of project activities.
  • Monitoring project procurement plans in collaboration with Logistics and Supply Chain teams

Mission 3- Project Team Leadership and Staff Management

The Project Coordinator is responsible for:
  • Providing direct supervision and leadership to project staff.
  • Ensuring effective staff management, performance monitoring, coaching, and professional development.
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, induction, and capacity building of project staff.
  • Establishing clear performance objectives and conducting regular performance reviews.
  • Promoting teamwork, accountability, collaboration, and effective communication among project teams.
  • Ensuring staff compliance with organizational policies, safeguarding standards, humanitarian principles, and code of conduct.
  • Identifying capacity gaps and coordinating training and mentoring opportunities for project staff.

Mission 4: Monitoring, Reporting, Accountability and Learning
The Project Coordinator is responsible for
  • Ensuring effective monitoring of project progress against approved indicators, targets, and work plans.
  • Working closely with the MEAL team to strengthen data quality, accountability, and learning systems.
  • Reviewing and validating project data, assessments, and monitoring reports.
  • Ensuring timely preparation and submission of internal and donor reports.
  • Facilitating regular project review meetings and action tracking.
  • Supporting documentation of lessons learned, best practices, and success stories.
  • Ensuring that community feedback and complaints mechanisms are functional and effective.
  • Promoting evidence-based decision-making and adaptive project management.

Mission 5: Representation, Coordination and Partnership Management

The Project Coordinator is responsible for:
  • Representing ACF in project-related meetings, coordination forums, technical working groups, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with government authorities at state and local government levels.
  • Coordinating with donors, UN agencies, NGOs, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Sharing project achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and key concerns with management and external stakeholders.
  • Identifying opportunities for collaboration and strategic partnerships.
  • Supporting donor visits, monitoring missions, and external evaluations.
  • Contributing to program development initiatives and proposal design processes as requested.

Mission 6: Compliance, Risk Management and Program Quality

The Project Coordinator is responsible for:
  • Ensuring compliance with donor regulations, contractual obligations, and organizational policies.
  • Monitoring programmatic risks and implementing mitigation measures.
  • Ensuring adherence to safeguarding, protection, fraud prevention, and accountability standards.
  • Supporting internal and external audits, project reviews, and evaluations.
  • Ensuring timely documentation and filing of project records.
  • Promoting continuous improvement and learning throughout project implementation.
  • Escalating critical implementation challenges and risks to senior management in a timely manner.

Mission 7: Human Resources, Training and Capacity Building 

The Project  Coordinator is responsible for
  • Participate in the recruitment and integration of project staff, in consultation with Head of Department
  • Plan, with line managers, the induction and briefing of new project staff;
  • Manage staff under direct supervision and  create an enabling environment for the effective implementation of project activities.
  • Ensure operational supervision of the project's senior staff and contribute to their evaluation and action plan
  • Contribute to the overall design of a capacity building plan for the staff involved in the project in consultation and coordination with HoDs

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conduct all duties in a professional manner following ACF Nigeria mission staff regulations, ACF mandate and charter including promotion of gender equality.

Position Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Project Management, International Development, Public Health, Social Sciences, Humanitarian Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience managing humanitarian and development projects.
  • Proven experience coordinating multi-sector projects in complex humanitarian settings.
  • Strong project cycle management, planning, budgeting, and reporting skills.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and supervising teams.
  • Experience managing donor-funded and institutional grant projects.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including working with government authorities, donors, and humanitarian coordination platforms.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles, standards, and safeguarding frameworks, including CHS and Sphere.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience working in Northeast and/or Northwest Nigeria, particularly in Borno and Katsina States, and implementing health, nutrition, protection, or resilience programmes is an advantage.
