Action Against Hunger began operations in Nigeria in 2010 in response to the high rate of chronic malnutrition in Northern Nigeria, focusing on integrated programming. Action Against Hunger currently implements multi-sectorial humanitarian and development interventions in Northeast and Northwest Nigeria, funded by AFD, EU/ECHO, French Government, GAC, GFFO, SIDA, US Government, and WAM Foundation.


Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Grants and Compliance Manager who will be responsible for overseeing all critical aspects of the grant cycle from pre-award to post-award including donor compliance, timely and quality reporting, internal and external coordination.

Key Responsibilities:
Objective 1: Overall supervision of Public health promotion and Non-food items distribution activities following ACF’s local strategy and International Guidelines
  • Ensure that a KAP baseline survey is carried out, analysis done and hygiene promotion strategy is designed on the basis of the findings (for projects more than three months long)
  • Identify various target groups in geographical area
  • Plan, design, and deliver hygiene promotion activities, including community mobilization and awareness campaigns as specify in proposal document.
  • Ensure in collaboration of partners, conduct hygiene promotion sessions in communities, schools, and other institutions.
  • In coordination with the WASH Program Manager, revise and adapt hygiene promotion training material to local context and in line with target groups to be trained
  • In coordination with the WASH Program Manager, revise and adapt all IEC materials in line with the local context. This should be drawn up as a communication plan
  • Ensure that all monitoring is done in line with the agreed monitoring format
  • Continually assess emergency needs, as requested, especially taking in the broader perspective of public health
  • Plan beneficiary selection and registration, and led  the distribution of NFI kits with the Field Assistant team
  • Ensure that work meets with SPHERE minimum standards
  • Assist the WASH Program Manager with, and where required participate in, community mobilisation
  • Ensure that all technical work reflects the needs and preferences of different target groups

Objective 2: Train and build the capacity of staffs and partners
  • Ensure that the PHP team members (both Volunteers and staff) and partners are fully aware of the hygiene promotion Strategy and all activities are in line with strategy activities.
  • Prepare training tools on relevant technical topics and conduct trainings for both internal staff and external stakeholders
  • Assist the WASH Program Manager in the development of technical guidelines and tools
  • Assess areas for improvement and recording lessons learnt for future activities

Objective 3. Coordinate with internal staffs, and local stakeholders to ensure smooth project implementation
  • Liaise closely with the WASH manager throughout the planning, design and implementation stages of WASH technical activities.
  • Represent ACF at local level WASH meetings and technical working groups relating to Public health promotion and NFI distribution as required by your line manager

Objective 4: Supervise and manage staffs under your responsibility  
  • Participate in staff’s recruitment in line with agreed organogram structure.
  • Provide day-to-day management of staff directly under your responsibility.
  • Set objectives with staff under your direct management, and appraise their performance in accordance with ACF performance management policies, identifying areas where they require support and capacity building
  • Ensure that your team co-ordinate and integrate with WASH technical team members.
  • Ensure that gender issues are taken into account
  • Closely work and track the activities of partners to ensure is according to project contract agreement.
  • Report regularly, verbally and in writing, to the WASH Program Manager


Position Requirements:
  • Degree/HND in Public health, Health education, sociology, rural development, and other related fields
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience
  • Prior involvement in hygiene promotion activities (e.g. Emergency hygiene promotion, WASH Ems, PHAST, CHAST)
  • Experience working in humanitarian sector setting and with donor funded programs (e.g. OHA, ECHO, SIDA)
  • Familiarity with PHC activities and local health systems in Northeast/Northwest Nigeria
  • Previous work experience with ACF is an asset; Commitment to ACF’s mission, values, and policies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Strong organizational and professional skills
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to challenging environments
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Hausa and Kanuri is an advantage
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote areas with limited services
  • Good understanding of the intervention areas and local economy
  • Motivated, responsible, flexible, culturally sensitive, and mature
