Action Against Hunger began operations in Nigeria in 2010 in response to the high rate of chronic malnutrition in Northern Nigeria, focusing on integrated programming. Action Against Hunger currently implements multi-sectorial humanitarian and development interventions in Northeast and Northwest Nigeria, funded by AFD, EU/ECHO, French Government, GAC, GFFO, SIDA, US Government, and WAM Foundation.
Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Grants and Compliance Manager who will be responsible for overseeing all critical aspects of the grant cycle from pre-award to post-award including donor compliance, timely and quality reporting, internal and external coordination.
Position Details
Reporting to: Social Protection PM
Proposed start date: 15 December 2025
Work location: Dutse, Maiduguri and Yola
The Social Protection Programme Officer will support the SP PM in the implementation of social protection initiatives. He/She will support targeting, enrolment of vulnerable HHs into State Social Register (SRR), including capacity building on inclusive social protection programing.
Key Responsibilities:
Objective 1: Support the Coordination and Implementation of the Social Protection Program
- Assist the Social Protection Manager in implementing the SP component of the project to ensure activities are delivered on time and in line with project standards.
- Support the development and adaptation of social protection activities aligned with state and national strategies.
- Participate in activity planning and implementation with government counterparts and community stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to ACF technical guidelines and program quality standards during field implementation.
- Contribute to the integration of gender, disability inclusion, and climate resilience in SP activities.
- Support budget monitoring by preparing activity budgets, cash needs, and expenditure tracking.
- Assist in preparing procurement requests and following up on procurement plans.
- Support the expansion of government Social safety net register (SRR) through training and collaboration with SOCU
- Participate in the targeting, identification, and registration of vulnerable households into state and national social registers.
Objective 2: Support Field activities, Compliance, and Technical Quality
- Assist in conducting technical assessments, surveys, and MEAL-related field activities.
- Contribute to the development of activity work plans and procurement plans.
- Conduct regular field visits to support the SP government partners, CSOs, and implementing teams.
- Support harmonization of tools, methodologies, and implementation approaches across partner organizations.
- Assist in drafting technical documents, activity reports, and program tools.
- Conduct relevant trainings and exchange visits to build capacity of LGA staff on social protection and safety net programme
Objective 3: Tracking, Documentation, and Reporting of SP activities
- Develop and submit monthly technical updates, activity reports, and indicator tracking information.
- Review field level data to ensure consistency with the project’s logical framework.
- Follow up on procurement and logistical needs in collaboration with Logistics and Program Manager.
- Ensure proper filing, organization, and accessibility of program data, lessons learned, and documentation.
- Ensure that all program-related data and information on social protection and safety nets component of the program is correct, updated, organized and accessible to other key stakeholders, and that lessons learnt and best practice are documented.
- Support development of activities progress reports for the social protection and safety nets
Objective 4: Capacity Building and Coordination Support
- Support capacity-building activities for government partners, and community structures.
- Assist in preparing TORs, job descriptions, and documentation required for enumerators, consultants and short-term technical staff.
- Coordinate with ACF and Partner to ensure a common approach and sharing of information.
- Support additional coordination tasks as requested by the FSL/SP Manager
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Agricultural Science, Economics, Social Sciences, or another related field or A Masters degree in International Development, Humanitarian Assistance, Rural Development, Disaster risk management, Economics or related field.
- 3 years’ experience in humanitarian or development contexts, with at least 1 year supporting, managing or coordinating a social protection or safety nets project in a similar context.
- Familiar with FCDO/GIZ-funded grants and budget management.
- Excellent communication, writing and analytical skills in English;
- Team management and representation experience.
- Qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills, oral and written communications, and MS Office.
- Experience in assessment, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Familiarity with statistical or data collection and analysis software, preferably
- Strong understanding of social protection systems, including policy frameworks, delivery mechanisms, and targeting strategies.
- Experience working with government counterparts and donor-funded projects.
